Studio Practice

Glancing
Acrylic, oil, wax, gold leaf on wood. Dimensions variable. 2018-20.
Smallish works that tend to oscillate between painting and object.  My obsession with shadows (luminescent, fugitive things) seems best  expressed with traditional techniques of glazing alongside raw  process. I like the way they seem a bit off, uneasily perched on the wall.
"Cirro2." graphite, acrylic, gold leaf on panel. appx 5x7" 2018. Private collection.

Grain.
Casein on wood. 2018. 9x12 to 14 x 25 in.

Sometimes the grain of a panel suggests its own imagery so I go with it. Think Michelangelo eyeballing the blocks of marble at Cararra, but with less finesse and divine inspiration.
